As we hit the first day of November, the sports world shifts into a new rhythm. With Game 7 of the World Series happening tonight, football may still be king, but the day-to-day grind is about to belong to the NBA (and the NHL to a lesser extent).
After five games into the season, we’re settling into the long haul of daily and weekly roster decisions. For those of us deep in the fantasy basketball world, Saturday presents some interesting streaming opportunities, especially when you know which matchups to target and which players are sitting free in over half your leagues.
Looking at the Minnesota Timberwolves visiting Charlotte, this is exactly the kind of spot I get excited about. The Hornets have been among the worst teams in basketball for years now, and the stats back up what we see on the court.
They play at a top-10 pace (actually sixth-fastest) while sporting a bottom-10 defensive rating (specifically sixth-worst). Minnesota, coming off back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances despite their current 2-3 start, should exploit this matchup. When you’re grinding through fantasy leagues, these scheduling advantages matter more than reputation alone.
Donte DiVincenzo is the primary target here for the guard position. The guy is logging 30 minutes per game and putting up 12.6 points, making him valuable despite being owned in some leagues. Beyond DiVincenzo, Mike Conley represents a low-level option for the truly desperate, as his modest numbers won’t move the needle much.
Jaylen Clark falls into the same low-level category, and with a calf strain making him questionable, these guys are deep-league territory at best. At forward, Terrence Shannon Jr. showed promise with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists in his first game of the season, though his stats have been lower since—notably just nine points once. As a streamer, Shannon remains a dart throw for those hunting value.
From my experience managing rosters through the long haul of an NBA season, matchups like Charlotte separate the smart streaming moves from the desperate ones. The Timberwolves present clear opportunities even if some options require you to be desperate enough to gamble on guys with modest production.
What makes this Saturday particularly interesting? The combination of pace and defensive vulnerability creates multiple paths to value, even when the center position offers none of the upside we’d typically want. Are you willing to take the risk on players like Conley or Clark when DiVincenzo might already be rostered? That’s where the real fantasy skill comes into play during this daily chess match we call roster management.
Orlando Magic @ Washington Wizards
Washington Wizards vs. Orlando Magic
When two teams that fit our criteria as targets face off, you know you’re looking at an up-and-down contest with a lot of points and stats flying around. This matchup has been mentioned above as an ongoing issue for the Wizards. We have been targeting them for multiple seasons, and they’re likely to remain among the dregs of the league this season. What makes this matchup particularly appealing? Both teams struggle defensively while playing at breakneck speed, creating multiple options for those hunting streaming value on Saturday.
Orlando Magic
Orlando sits on the fringe at the 10th-fastest pace with the ninth-worst defensive rating. The Magic were expected to compete in the wide-open Eastern Conference, but their bottom-10 offensive rating suggests they need to improve their performance from this early small sample.
For the Magic, Tristan da Silva stands out as the third forward rotating with starters Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. da Silva has been remarkably productive, having scored at least 15 points in four of six games. While he doesn’t do a lot beyond scoring, he’ll grab a few rebounds and serves as a very good streaming option.
Fantasy Football Tools Analysis
At center, Wendell Carter Jr. is worthy of your attention as a keeper if you arre short at center. He’s averaging 28 minutes, 10.5 points, and 8.2 rebounds. I love Carter as a streamer here. Goga Bitadze represents a low-volume player who’s around six points and six rebounds per game, offering decent desperation production.
At guard, Anthony Black deserves attention, averaging 26.5 minutes and 13 points per game. Black contributes primarily through scoring the basketball without doing a lot else, while Tyus Jones is just a low-level contributor who doesn’t put up many stats.
Washington Wizards
Washington operates at the fourth-fastest pace while sporting the third-worst defensive rating, a combination I’ve learned to love over years of managing rosters. Offensively, there’s nothing special here, but someone has to score the ball and rack up stats when they face a good matchup. The Wizards have 10 players averaging at least 15 minutes per game, with nine having played all five games that’s a lot of potential streamers to consider.
Bilal Coulibaly made his season debut on Thursday and finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. He’s a very good pickup who might be worth holding onto beyond this matchup.

Khris Middleton is the guy you really want to grab among the forwards, averaging 25.8 minutes and 12.4 points per game. He’s scored in double figures in three of five games, once also grabbing 10 rebounds, making Middleton a strong streamer. Corey Kispert and Cam Whitmore are lower-level players who are fine in deep leagues but probably not guys you want to count on if you can help it.
Tre Johnson has been better at guard, scoring nearly 14 points per game as a decent streaming option. Bub Carrington has played over 28 minutes per game but operates at low volume, ranking ninth on the team in points per game while helping modestly in other areas making Carrington a low-level fantasy player.
Were you wondering whether Marvin Bagley III was still in the league? He’s playing just 15 minutes per game in a reserve role, having scored eight or more points three times in five games (while combining for just three points in the other two games). Bagley is another low-level fantasy player worth considering only in desperation.
From my experience managing fantasy rosters through the season, this type of matchup between teams that can’t defend but push pace creates opportunities across multiple roster spots.
